University Sentate Committe Members Other University Committe Members Most policy-making at OSU is done in committees, comprised of students, faculty, and administrators. As the voice of the professional student body, each year IPC appoints representatives to over two dozen committees around campus. First among these committees is the University Senate itself. Subject to the authority of OSU’s Board of Trustees, the University Senate has been delegated the legislative authority over educational and academic policy. Comprised of 135 members representing OSU’s three constituencies (students, faculty and administration), the University Senate in part has the power to recommend the establishment, abolition, and alteration of educational units and programs of study, and to act upon matters relating to the rights, responsibilities, and concerns of students, faculty, administrators, and staff. While some of the Senate’s actions are then passed up to the Board of Trustees for final approval, other decisions by the Senate are final and become binding policy in their enactment. The Senate also delegates part of its authority to other bodies. Several Senate committees exist to make the final decisions on some issues and provide recommendations to the Senate on others. These committees address proposals that impact upon nearly every facet of OSU, including academic affairs, athletics, diversity issues, enrollment, fiscal policy, information technology, research, and student life. While most of these committees have professional student representation, for various reasons a few do not. For example, the Committee on Academic Misconduct includes undergraduate and graduate students but not professional students as each of the six professional colleges has its own internal process for handling academic misconduct issues. The Faculty Compensation and Benefits Committee has no student representation at all. In addition to the Senate committees, there are several other committees that focus on additional areas of the university, including health insurance, the progress of a campus-wide wireless network, homecoming, and the selection of each quarter’s commencement speaker. Below is a list of the various committees to which IPC appoints representatives. By clicking on a committee name, you will be re-directed to that committee’s University webpage if one exists.
